Public Interest Groups File Amended FEC Complaint Against Russian Government and Trump Campaign

Free Speech For People and Campaign for Accountability filed an amended complaint with the Federal Election Commission demanding “an immediate investigation” into whether the Russian government illegally spent money to influence the 2016 presidential election, in possible coordination with the Trump campaign.

Campaign for Accountability Files Complaint With U.S. Attorney Against Missouri State Sen. Ron Richard

On April 19, 2017, CfA filed a complaint with Acting U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Missouri Tom Larson requesting an investigation into whether Missouri State Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard violated federal law by accepting a $100,000 campaign contribution in return for legislative assistance.

CfA Asks Oregon Attorney General to Investigate Solar Industry

On March 29, 2017, CfA asked Oregon Attorney General Ellen Rosenblum to open an investigation into companies that offer residential solar panels in Oregon.  A review of consumer complaints filed with the Oregon Attorney General’s Office reveals many of these companies have engaged in false and misleading acts in the marketing and sale or lease of solar panels, in apparent violation of Oregon law.

Missouri Court to Consider CfA’s Petition to Unseal Labor Secretary Nominee Andrew Puzder’s Divorce Records

On February 9, 2017, CfA announced the Circuit Court for the County of St. Louis has scheduled a hearing on CfA’s petition to unseal the divorce records of Andrew Puzder, President Donald Trump’s nominee to be Secretary of the Department of Labor. On February 14, 2017, CfA Executive Director Daniel Stevens released a statement.

CfA Files Ethics Complaint Against House Staffers Who Worked on Trump’s Immigration Order

On January 31, 2017, CfA asked the Office of Congressional Ethics to immediately open an investigation into whether unnamed employees of the House Judiciary Committee broke any federal laws or House rules by helping President-elect Trump draft his executive order limiting immigration from seven Muslim majority countries.

CfA Calls on Federal Authorities to Investigate Steven Mnuchin’s OneWest Bank for Fraud

On January 6, 2017, CfA called on the Department of Justice and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency to investigate OneWest bank for using potentially illegal tactics to foreclose on as many as 80,000 California homes.  Mr. Mnuchin, whom President-elect Trump has nominated for Secretary of the Department of the Treasury, previously served as the CEO of OneWest.

CfA and FSFP File FEC Complaint Against Russian Government and Trump Campaign

On December 16, 2016, CfA and Free Speech For People called on the Federal Election Commission (FEC) to immediately investigate whether the Russian government, which paid hackers to aid Donald Trump’s campaign, illegally influenced the presidential election.  The Federal Election Campaign Act prohibits foreign nationals from spending money to influence American elections.
