CfA received a letter from the Attorney Grievance Committee of the Third Judicial Department of New York saying it determined, based on allegations brought forth in a CfA complaint, that the actions undertaken by New York-licensed attorney John A. Sarcone III while serving as Interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York amounted to professional misconduct.
CfA's complaint highlights how Mr. Sarcone’s behavior across a series of events appears to violate myriad Rules of Professional Conduct by which all New York lawyers must abide.
This year, Patton solicited the participation of four tenants of the New York City Housing Authority to participate in a video praising the President which aired at the 2020 Republican National Convention. If this video, made solely for the purpose of advocating for the election of a political candidate, is found to have been created using resources obtained through Ms. Patton’s public office, it would be a clear violation of the Hatch Act.
On April 24, 2018, CfA called on attorneys general in Arizona, Nevada, and New York to investigate rooftop solar companies with an emphasis on Vivint Solar.
On August 30, 2016, CfA filed a complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice’s Public Integrity Section requesting an investigation of Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for filing apparently inaccurate financial disclosure reports for 2015 and 2016.
On February 3, 2016, CfA filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission (FEC) requesting an investigation into illegal coordination between the campaign of Andrew Heaney, who is running for Congress in New York’s 19th district, and a super PAC he appears to have established, New York Jobs Council.
