Legislature protects campaign coffers, top donors like David Humphreys

Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Ron Richard’s relationship with top Republican donor David Humphreys, the CEO and president of Tamko Building Products, has received significant negative attention recently. Sen. Richard accepted a six-figure contribution from Humphreys six days after introducing legislation that might protect Humphreys’ company from a class action lawsuit and, as a result, save the company millions of dollars.
Last month, my organization, Campaign for Accountability, called on the U.S. Attorney’s Office to investigate whether Sen. Richard’s actions broke any laws.
But Sen. Richard is not the only member of the Missouri Legislature with ties to Humphreys. At least three others — Sen. Bob Onder, and Reps. Rob Vescovo and Holly Rehder — have been carrying the virulently anti-union Humphreys’ water, and their respective campaigns appear to have been rewarded handsomely for their efforts.
