WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Campaign for Accountability (CfA) filed suit against the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA) over its failure to comply with the organization’s FOIA request for a report written by FHFA Administrator Bill Pulte regarding Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell.
On January 22nd, following reporting that Mr. Pulte had prepared a memo as part of President Trump’s efforts to push Mr. Powell from his role, CfA sent a FOIA to FHFA requesting the report. Given the widespread media attention and keen public interest in the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s investigation of Mr. Powell, CfA requested expedited processing of its request. Nevertheless, FHFA failed to provide the memo or respond to CfA’s request beyond acknowledgement of receipt.
Accordingly, CfA has filed suit to compel the agency to expeditiously release all records responsive to the request.
CfA executive director Michelle Kuppersmith said, “Bill Pulte and the FHFA do not have jurisdiction over the Fed or its Chairman, so the public has a right to know how Pulte abused his position to push the president’s vendetta. Since the FHFA has neither provided the memo nor explained why it has not, CfA is asking the court to compel the agency to produce it.”
