WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Campaign for Accountability (CfA), a non-profit watchdog group that runs the Tech Transparency Project (TTP), published a report showing that Meta approved hundreds of ads selling guns and gun accessories in violation of its own policies— raising questions about the company’s ability, or willingness, to enforce safety standards for its lucrative advertising business.
This report is a joint project of TTP and the Everytown for Gun Safety Support Fund (“Everytown”), with TTP taking the lead on the platform research and Everytown providing technical expertise. In light of the research findings, Everytown issued a set of recommendations to Meta for making its platform safer from illicit gun sales.
