WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. District Judge Kathleen Williams issued a ruling finding President Trump’s lawsuit against the IRS was a sham because the parties were not adverse.

Michelle Kuppersmith, executive director of Campaign for Accountability—which, in June, filed a complaint with the DC bar against Associate Attorney General Stanley Woodward, the sole signatory to the $1.776 billion “Anti-Weaponization” settlement fund, for violating legal ethics rules governing conflicts of interest—issued the following statement:

“Campaign for Accountability is gratified that in her ruling, Judge Williams rightfully highlighted Mr. Woodward’s conflict of interest in creating the slush fund, which stands to benefit many of his former clients, and noted that his conduct appears to have violated the rules of ethics governing attorney conduct. Judge Williams also noted the existence of CfA’s bar complaint against Mr. Woodward and directed a copy of her order be sent to the DC Bar. By refusing to allow President Trump’s fictional settlement to undermine the legitimacy of the courts, Judge Williams stood up for the rule of law. Now the DC Bar must follow suit.”

Campaign for Accountability is a nonpartisan, nonprofit watchdog organization that uses research, litigation, and aggressive communications to expose misconduct and malfeasance in public life and hold those who act at the expense of the public good accountable for their actions.
