CfA Response to Attorney Grievance Committee Request to Keep Sarcone Proceedings Sealed
This week, in response to Campaign for Accountability’s (CfA) petition to unseal all records concerning the disciplinary proceeding conducted by the Attorney Grievance Committee for the Third Judicial Department against John A. Sarcone III, the First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of New York, the Committee requested that the proceedings surrounding CfA’s petition be sealed.
On August 28th, CfA submitted a letter in response to the Committee’s request.
CfA executive director Michelle Kuppersmith stated:
“It’s disappointing that the grievance committee has doubled down on insisting that the public should be limited in what it learns about the disciplining of a high-ranking official. If the process to determine whether transparency should be granted is itself shrouded in secrecy, the public’s trust will only be further degraded.”
